A Foreign Trade Zone is a federally designated area that enables businesses located within that zone to defer, reduce or eliminate the payment of U.S. Customs duties on goods held within that zone. In turn, these businesses only pay the Customs duties if and when the goods are transferred into normal U.S. Customs territory for domestic consumption. Administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Suffolk's current program features Foreign Trade Zone #20, which includes 375 acres in Bridgeway Commerce Park and 150 acres in Suffolk Industrial Park.
