The Economic Development Authority (EDA) is a political subdivision of the City of Suffolk which is authorized by the Virginia General Assembly to initiate and develop a variety of new business opportunities throughout the City. The EDA's role is to foster economic development and help with the expansion of existing businesses, and to assist new businesses to create new jobs and capital investment within the City.
The EDA Board is made up of seven board members appointed by City Council to a four year term. Each member represents a specific borough in the City. The EDA holds a regularly scheduled meeting on the Second Wednesday of each month.
The EDA is funded by contributions from City Council, interest on investments, bond maintenance fees, and sale of real estate which is owned by the EDA.
